  1. How often should I rotate my tyres?

    Rotating your tyres is an important part of their maintenance, however it can be more complicated today than in the past. There are several things you need to know in order to select the appropriate rotation method for your vehicle.

    1. The tyre sizes on your vehicle, front and rear - more vehicles today have different sizes between the front and rear tyres as this helps the vehicle achieve specific performance characteristics that the manufacturer desires. If your front tyres are a different size to your rear tyres then you will not be able to rotate between these positions.
    2. Tread direction - some modern tyres have tread patterns that are designed to rotate in one direction only, which means that they cannot be swapped from the left to the right side of the car without removing the tyre from the wheel, a much more difficult and complex process.
    3. Spare tyre size - If your vehicle has a full size spare tyre then it is wise to include it in your tyre rotation system to ensure your tyres wear evenly and get full use. If, however, you have a space-saver spare this tyre should not be used in the rotation.

    These considerations will help you select the best rotation method for your needs.

  2. How often should I check my tyre pressures?
    Tyreright Recommends that you check the pressure of your tyres, including your spare, monthly and before any long journey, preferably when your tyres are cold. If they are hot, it is advisable to add 4-5 psi (0.3 bar) to the pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

    Correct tyre pressure reduces the risk of losing control of your vehicle. It also protects your tyres from premature wear and irreversible damage to the internal construction. Tyre pressure can drop due to small perforations, the natural escape of air through the tyre's components or even from a decrease in ambient temperatures. So it is important to check it once a month, because:

    • Low pressure increases the risk of damage to your tyres
    • Excess pressure of 20% can reduce the life of your tyre by up to 10,000 kms
    • Correct tyre pressure will even save fuel

    The recommended tyre pressure can be found:

    • In the User's Manual of your vehicle
    • On the labels on the side door beside the driver's seat
    • In the storage drawer near the driver's seat
    • On the inside of the fuel flap

    But NOT on the tyre. The inflation pressure shown on the tyre sidewall is only the maximum tyre inflation pressure.
