Expect higher petrol prices this holiday season

Petrol prices could remain upwards of $1.50 per litre throughout the festive season, due in part to a low Australian dollar and higher oil prices overseas.
According to CommSec economist Savanth Sebastian, the average price of petrol stands at about $1.51, with further rises of between one and two cents expected over the week between Christmas and New Year's Day.
But while petrol prices are set to remain elevated over the coming fortnight, there are a number of things that drivers can do to save money while out on the roads. By taking measures to boost your car's efficiency and ensure it is operating at an optimal level, you can reduce the overall amount of fuel you consume and save money at the pumps.
Checking your tyre pressure regularly, for example, can help your car operate more efficiently. Your car tyres should also be checked frequently for wear and tear - the tread pattern must always be at least 1.5 mm deep for the car to be deemed roadworthy.
You may also find that regularly replacing your air filters and keeping an eye on your spark plugs can help your vehicle operate as efficiently as possible.
