Good news for those looking for adventure this long weekend, as the Victorian government has announced the Great Alpine Road will reopen in time for holidaymakers this Easter.

The route has been closed while a recovery project takes place to clear dangerous trees along the adjoining land.

These efforts have been affected in recent weeks by fire and storm events, but the route will be able to be partially opened this weekend nonetheless.

Minister for environment and climate change Ryan Smith said that Easter visitors would be able to access many parts of Alpine National Park.

"For those wanting a four wheel drive adventure, access to the Wonnangatta Valley from the north is now open from the Buckland and Buffalo Valleys and in the south, various tracks have re-opened on the Dargo High Plains," said Mr Smith in a statement.

If you plan on heading off road this Easter, don’t forget to ensure your 4WD tyres are in good condition before you head away.

Check that your tread is not too worn down and that there is no damage to other parts of the tyre.
