What women should keep in their car
Posted by: Cal on 23/09/2013
We women are busy and often our car is more like a second home to us, instead of a way of getting place to place. We spend so much time rushing around, zipping from work to appointments to social gatherings - and admit it, you've taken at least a wee nap in there before.
Because we spend so much time in our cars it's important they're well-stocked with what we need for everyday life. There's a fine line, though, as you don't want to overburden your vehicle with too many unnecessary items.
Check out this list of what we've identified as essential or handy things to have in your car. Then write your own and get going.
The practical stuff
It might not be exciting, but it's important that you have all the important, practical stuff sorted in case of emergency.
That means a spare tyre for if one of your car tyres blows out, jumper cables in case you've left your lights on and drained the battery, and a map in the event of a wrong turn - or five.
There are loads of other practical things you can store in your car, which might be necessary if you need to drive long distances or are in a remote area.
You might want to consider a GPS system, as these are more user-friendly than traditional maps and have greater capabilities. They are extra beneficial for those who drive to new locations frequently.
You may want to consider packing a first aid kit as well. Even a basic kit stocked with some painkillers, bandages, gloves, gauze and antiseptic is a good idea. You can buy pre-packaged kit or make your own.
They can be kept very compact so it won't take up much room and you never know when it might come in handy. Keep a torch with this kit too, in case an emergency strikes at night.
Also think about packing a warm blanket. This can be a lifesaver if you break down or have an accident and are waiting for help. In addition to this, packaged foods such as muesli bars and high-energy snacks can come in handy if you are in for a long wait.
The other stuff
There are a million things us girls could keep in our cars, but let's stay on task and narrow it down.
First of all, tissues and wet wipes are a must. These have so many purposes and you always seem to need them when they aren't there, so prevent this by stocking up and keeping them in your glove box.
Next up, it never goes astray to pack an emergency pair of shoes. If you usually wear flats, chuck in a pair of heels in case you suddenly get invited to a flash event. Conversely, if you're usually in heels then stock a pair of flats in your boot for when they become unbearable. Similarly, you might want to keep some spare make-up in your car with your wet wipes - you never know when you'll need it!
Less necessary but still rather useful can be a good book or a magazine. If you're ever stuck somewhere, or you've got somewhere early and have a bit of a wait, this can help to kill your boredom and pass the time.
Great music is absolutely necessary in any vehicle. Make sure that you can blast your most beloved playlists in your car, especially on those long road trips with friends.
