Winter can be a great time to take a road trip - after all, wouldn't it be nice to escape from the gloom of the big city and get away from it all for a few weeks?

However, it's important to remember that winter can be a hazardous time for driving, with wild weather and diminished visibility both potentially causing havoc on the roads.

For that reason, it's a good idea to go through this simple safety checklist before embarking on any winter road trips.

Check for tyre safety

With the roads slick, it's more important than ever to make sure that your car tyres are in good condition. Poor quality tyres can result in an increased stopping distance and loss of traction with the road, so make sure yours are in tip top shape before embarking on your trip.

Top up your fluids

With the temperatures dropping, it's important to make sure that your car is topped up with fluids such as oil and coolant, which will keep the engine running at its best.

Replace your wiper blades

The last thing you need when you're out on a winter road trip is for rain to hinder your visibility. Make sure your wiper blades are in good condition and properly fitted so that they will work properly at all times.
