Fernando Alonso took the checkered flag at the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix on the weekend, following up a disappointing retirement in the Malaysian Grand Prix with a perfect race for his Ferrari team.
The driver, who came in second at the Australian Grand Prix, was joined on the podium by Lotus-Renault's Kimi Raikkonen in second place, and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton - the fastest in qualifying - who edged out Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel for third place by just 0.2 seconds.
All three drivers who would end up on the podium swapped out their soft-compound Pirelli tyres within the first six laps and fought out the rest of the race on medium-compound varieties.
Hamilton led from his pole position at the start but was soon passed by Alonso and his teammate Felipe Massa in the fifth lap.
Varying pit stop strategies saw several leadership changes before Alonso took the lead in the 28th lap and stayed there until the end.
Vettel staged a fierce attack to catch Hamilton but ultimately came up short by just two-tenths of a second.
In his podium interview, Alonso reflected on a great race for the Ferrari team which saw teammate Massa finish in sixth position, and looked ahead to next weekend's Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
"I expect a tough race again. In Bahrain I think we will see different conditions and who knows how competitive anyone can be."
