How to get the most out of city driving

Driving from red light to red light can become dull and you may feel you are always waiting in traffic jams, forever anticipating the moment your new tyres can begin to move forward.
However, there are a few steps you can take to make your commute more enjoyable.
Switch to a manual transmission
Tired of sitting there while your car does all the work? A manual gear box means you need to take control of your driving as you are responsible for changing the gears and making sure you are not overrevving the engine.
In a manual car, your mind won't be able to drift off like it can in an automatic as you will need to keep anticipating your next move.
Clean your car
There's nothing quite like that new car smell and while you can't always recreate this in your vehicle, you can give it a quick clean to make it seem brand new.
Take out all your rubbish and give the interior a polish. You will be surprised at how much of a difference it makes when you are behind the wheel. It will remind you what drove you to choose that car in the first place.
Think about your fuel efficiency
If you are driving the same road every day, consciously thinking about small steps you can take to improve your fuel economy can help you stay focused on the road.
Even if it is as simple as treading more gently on the accelerator or making sure you are in the right gear, you may find novel ways to make that tank of fuel go the extra mile.
Pop the radio on
While not everyone will enjoy the background noise when they are driving, it does help some people concentrate better.
Plus, they can provide something to listen to when you are stuck in that 8am gridlock.
Use pauses wisely
When you get stuck in gridlock traffic, it can be hard to think about how best to spend the time. Why not make a list of all the things you are grateful for? Or, you could plan what you are going to cook for dinner.
There are plenty of ways to use this time so it doesn't feel like it is going to waste. If you feel stressed, why not make a feel-good playlist and let it run as you wait for a break in the traffic?
Just make sure you are not so excited when the light turns green that your new tyres squeal! They will last longer if you are gentle on the accelerator.
